The Brisbane Lions, last year’s champions, faced a surprising setback last week with an unexpected defeat against the Melbourne Demons. However, they bounced back strongly as they welcomed the Adelaide Crows to the Gabba.
Brisbane delivered an impressive performance from the outset, clinching a convincing 52-point win, finishing with a scoreline of 19.13 (127) to 11.9 (75).
Commentator Anthony Hudson remarked, “17 teams will be watching this now with a bit of trepidation,” acknowledging the Lions’ return to prime form.
For the Adelaide Crows, the match marked an emotionally charged return for skipper Jordan Dawson, who has recently endured the heartbreak of losing his brother.
In a gesture of goodwill, Brisbane players made it a point to cross the field and embrace Dawson following the final siren.
A highlight for Dawson came during the second quarter when he kicked a goal, made possible by a generous setup from veteran teammate Tex Walker.

At half-time, Nick Dal Santo praised the moment, stating, “It’s a fantastic moment, well done to Tex Walker. He understands the situation and the importance of being selfless for the skipper.”
He added, “That speaks volumes and highlights how cherished individuals are within football clubs, as well as the special connections made within those four walls.”
After the match, Brisbane forward Zac Bailey reflected on his side’s response to the “embarrassing” loss from the previous week and how their adjustments spurred their revival at home.
“After last week’s performance, we were quite embarrassed, so this week our focus was on tackling the contest, and we accomplished that tonight with our efforts in the contest and clearances,” Bailey admitted.

“Players like Lachie Neale and Will Ashcroft controlled the game effectively and laid the groundwork, making it a top performance tonight,” Bailey added.
“We focus on a principle called ‘fight to win’, which encompasses all the statistics and tasks completed without the ball. Our efforts last week fell short in this area, but I believe the stats will reflect a much-improved performance tonight.”
The Lions put the game beyond doubt in the third quarter, scoring seven consecutive goals to establish a substantial advantage heading into the final stretch.
While the Crows shifted their focus to defence in the last quarter, they were unable to disrupt Brisbane’s unyielding flow of play.

The Crows are set to face off against Port Adelaide next Friday, while the Brisbane Lions will take on Essendon next Saturday.
