Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah will be sidelined for the remainder of the season after sustaining a hamstring injury during a 3-1 victory against Crystal Palace, as confirmed by Egypt’s national team director Ibrahim Hassan on Saturday.
The 33-year-old Egyptian winger, who has declared his intention to depart from the reigning Premier League champions at the season’s end, received an ovation from the crowd as he exited the pitch due to injury in the 60th minute.
Liverpool have yet to provide an official update on Salah’s injury status. Nonetheless, Hassan indicated that the Egyptian star has played his final match for the club.
“He has suffered a hamstring tear and will require four weeks of treatment,” Hassan told Reuters.
After a remarkable nine seasons adorned with trophies, Salah’s tenure at Liverpool is drawing to a close. His departure will be commemorated with heartfelt words to the fans following the final match of the season against Brentford.
Liverpool have two home matches left on the schedule—against Chelsea on May 9 and Brentford on May 24—along with away fixtures against Manchester United on May 3, a team Salah has consistently troubled, and Aston Villa on May 17.
Mohamed Salah, Liverpool’s third-highest goalscorer in history, has amassed 12 goals and nine assists this season across all competitions.
Hassan mentioned that Salah will be back in shape for the 2026 World Cup, where Egypt will compete against Belgium, New Zealand, and Iran in Group G.
However, Salah is intent on making a swift recovery in time for the tournament in North America, which kicks off on June 11, in order to avoid a repeat of the injury issues he faced before the 2018 World Cup.
In that tournament, he suffered a shoulder injury during the Champions League final loss to Real Madrid and, despite scoring twice, Egypt was eliminated in the group stage in Russia.
