Port Adelaide has pulled off a remarkable upset against Geelong at the Adelaide Oval, claiming one of the season’s most surprising victories.
The Power took charge after the first quarter, and their only downfall was a lack of accuracy, leading to a final score of 13.17 (95) to 10.5 (65).
Geelong’s coach, Chris Scott, appeared visibly frustrated as he observed the match from the commentary box, a sentiment echoed by North Melbourne legend David King.

“Scott would be furious at the efforts he’s witnessing from his forwards and midfielders,” King commented on Fox Footy. “They’re allowing coast-to-coast transitions far too easily. Even the basic moves from Port have become predictable. Geelong seem completely lost defensively.”
“This is abysmal. He would be absolutely livid. I understand they’ve rested some players, but to put forth a performance like this away from home is inexcusable. I’d imagine Chris Scott would be ready to tear the paint off the walls at half-time.”

Adding to Geelong’s woes, veteran player Mark Blicavs sustained a serious knee injury during the match, later confirmed as a hyperextended lateral ligament.
Additionally, key defender Sam De Koning was a late withdrawal from the line-up, leaving the Cats without their tall options. This allowed Port Adelaide to dominate the ruck and aerial contests throughout the evening.
Geelong’s captain, Patrick Dangerfield, had a particularly tough outing, managing just four disposals, with three of those occurring in the dying moments of the game.
The 36-year-old spent the match playing mainly as a key forward, but struggled to make an impact amid the team’s overall difficulties.
At the other end of the field, Port Adelaide’s Mitch Georgiades felt he could have achieved more, finishing with four goals but also six behinds.
The Power’s midfield stars excelled, with Jason Horne-Francis and Zak Butters combining for a whopping 64 disposals, while Horne-Francis also notched up 12 clearances.
Bailey Smith stood out for Geelong, racking up 30 disposals, while Jeremy Cameron was able to score three goals from just nine disposals.
This victory marks Port Adelaide’s third win of the season, building on their strong performance against Hawthorn last week.
Meanwhile, Geelong slips to eighth position on the ladder, holding four wins, as they prepare to face the in-form North Melbourne next week.
