Ryan Sessegnon secured victory for Fulham with the sole goal of the match, lifting the team back into the top half of the Premier League after a 1-0 triumph over Aston Villa. This defeat ended Unai Emery’s unblemished record against the West London side, which had seen eight consecutive wins.
Fulham began the match with great energy, and had Emile Smith-Rowe delivered a more precise square pass, Raul Jimenez could have netted the opener just two minutes in, while Villa’s defence looked for an offside call that never came.
In contrast to their last outing against Brentford—where they failed to register a single shot on target—both Jimenez and Sasa Lukic tested Emiliano Martinez in the opening spell, although the World Cup winner wasn’t overly challenged.
Aston Villa started to find their rhythm as the first half progressed, with Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins both coming close, sending their attempts just wide of the post.
However, Fulham found the breakthrough just before the interval thanks to Sessegnon. Martinez could only parry Lukic’s header, which landed perfectly for the full-back to finish calmly amidst a tangle of defenders.

Harry Wilson had a golden opportunity to extend Fulham’s advantage at the beginning of the second period, as he was gifted the ball behind the Villa defence, but his hurried attempt went wide, with Jimenez in an ideal position for a pass.
Watkins nearly brought Villa back level before the hour mark, having smartly connected with a John McGinn delivery, but the usually reliable striker sent his shot off target. Soon after, Timothy Castagne thought he had doubled Fulham’s tally with a well-executed finish from a Lukić corner, only for the officials to disallow it for a foul on the keeper.
Ultimately, Villa could not overcome the single goal deficit, with Tammy Abraham failing to emulate his prior match-winner role as time wore down.
While villa remains on track to secure a spot in the UEFA Champions League, they still need an additional six points to guarantee it, contingent on other results. Fulham, on the other hand, is now just a point shy of seventh position as they aim to achieve European competition for the first time since the 2011/12 season.
