An exciting top-of-the-table Kiwi Super Rugby Pacific derby unfolded in Wellington on Saturday night, delivering a memorable atmosphere especially for the terminally ill Blues player Cameron Suafoa.
To commemorate 30 years since the inaugural match of the competition between these two teams in Palmerston North, the Hurricanes and Blues donned retro-inspired jerseys.
In a heartfelt gesture towards Suafoa, who has been dealt a devastating cancer diagnosis, all Blues players sported either blonde hair or shaved heads.

The Hurricanes secured a 42-19 victory, earning a bonus point and widening their lead at the top of the standings.
In a thrilling showdown of brothers, Jordie Barrett outshone Beauden, showcasing a strong all-around performance while playing at No.12.
“I’d rather be on the same side as Beaudy, but that’s just how it goes,” Jordie remarked.

“It wasn’t about competing against my brother. The Blues have been strong recently. We have managed to secure a win at home, but we’ll need to defeat them in Auckland soon, and perhaps we could face them again in a final. We just have to keep pushing ourselves to improve,” he added.
Blues captain Sam Darry sent his well-wishes to Suafoa:
“I know he will be watching. I’m sorry we couldn’t pull off the win for you tonight, but we’re all behind you. We love you and support you throughout this journey,” Darry stated.
