Newcomers TPS are comfortably perched at the summit of the Veikkausliiga table midway through the second round, having secured a victory against Lahti in one of three matches on Friday night. Meanwhile, SJK celebrated a convincing win, while VPS and Jaro settled for a draw.
TPS 2-1 Lahti
After managing to grab a point against Mariehamn during their trip to Aland, last season’s playoff winners reinforced their confidence with a strong performance at home, claiming all three points in their first top-flight encounter.
The opener came just before half-time, as Lahti struggled to clear a loose ball in their penalty area, allowing Eetu Turkki to head it across to Theodoros Tsirigotis, who finished with a deft nod.
Five minutes into the second half, Tsirigotis turned provider once more, delivering a pass to Marius Konkkola, who scored his first goal since their clash in the Liiga Cup back in January.
Momodou Sarr was the hero in Lahti’s season opener against Jaro, but his strike 16 minutes from time proved merely a consolation this time around, as the Turku side secured victory in this matchup between newly-promoted teams.
SJK 3-0 Mariehamn
After a disappointing start with a 3-0 defeat to HJK, SJK bounced back with a comfortable 3-0 win at home against Mariehamn.
The first goal arrived just shy of the half-hour mark, as Kelvin Pires headed in an inswinging corner from Kasper Paananen in the heart of the six-yard box.
Seven minutes after the break, the hosts doubled their lead when Salim Yussif embarked on a powerful run through the middle, laying the ball off to Paananen, who shrugged off defenders before unleashing a fierce shot past the goalkeeper.
The final flourish came in the 90th minute, with Paananen’s substitute Elias Mastokangas setting up another substitute, Jeremiah Streng, who capped off a successful evening for the Seinajoki outfit.
VPS 0-0 Jaro
In Vaasa, the match ended in a goalless draw as VPS played out their second consecutive scoreless game to kick off the 2026 season. Jaro picked up their first point but are still searching for their maiden goal of the campaign.
Despite Jaro’s efforts, which included 18 shots throughout the match, five of which were on target, all were expertly saved by Mamodou Jalloh in goal for the home side.
