Keisuke Honda, the former AC Milan and Japan international star, expressed his ambition to establish a new milestone following his signing with a Singapore club on Friday, as he embarks on a vibrant chapter of his career at the age of 39.
FC Jurong, a team in the Singapore Premier League, announced that the attacking midfielder, who has made appearances and scored in three World Cups, will be joining their ranks for the upcoming season.
The footballer’s latest stint was with Bhutan’s Paro FC, where he featured in two matches and netted two goals during the 2024/25 season.
Prior to that, Honda played for FK Suduva in Lithuania in 2021 and has also represented clubs across Japan, the Netherlands, Russia, Italy, Mexico, Australia, Brazil, and Azerbaijan.
In his own words, Honda revealed that he is “pursuing several personal challenges,” including the goal of scoring in more domestic top leagues than any other player.
“Nevertheless, my main objective with this club is to secure the league title,” he stated.
“We face some formidable opponents, making it a tough challenge, but I am resolute in my pursuit of it.”
Honda concluded his tenure with the Japan national team having earned 98 caps and scoring 38 goals after participating in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Away from the pitch, he manages a venture capital fund, owns a non-league club in Japan, and has also taken on managerial duties, leading Cambodia’s national team from August 2018 until January 2023.
In a statement, FC Jurong, previously known as Albirex Niigata Singapore, highlighted that Honda’s addition to the team “surpasses the simple signing of a player.”
“To construct a magnificent fortress, a sturdy foundation is essential,” remarked chairman Daisuke Korenaga.
“We infuse world-class experience, vision, and passion into this cornerstone.
“With Keisuke Honda on board, we are committed to creating a legacy that will support this club for the next century.”
