Following a series of underwhelming results that culminated in the sacking of coach Jacob Neestrup, reigning Danish champions FC Copenhagen returned to form with a resounding 7-0 victory over Silkeborg IF, marking Bo Svensson’s inaugural match in charge on Sunday evening.
FC Copenhagen kicked off the match infused with the enthusiasm and vitality they had sorely lacked throughout the season. Their efforts bore fruit just six minutes in, as Mohamed Elyounoussi deftly evaded the visitors’ offside trap, setting up a golden opportunity. Instead of taking the shot himself, Elyounoussi made a clever pass to an unmarked Youssoufa Moukoko, who comfortably tapped the ball home.
Six minutes later, the home side doubled their advantage when a corner resulted in a Silkeborg clearance landing at the feet of Brazilian striker Robert. He made no mistake, striking with precision from the edge of the box.
By the 17th minute, the contest was effectively over. William Clem mirrored Robert’s earlier strike, unleashing a stunning finish from the edge of the box that left goalkeeper Nicolai Larsen with no chance, as FC Copenhagen dismantled a stunned Silkeborg side.
Things went from bad to worse for coach Kent Nielsen and his team as the home side scored again in the 25th minute. Mathias ‘Zanka’ Jorgensen provided a headed ball that Moukoko pounced on, guiding it over the line for his second goal of the evening.
Six minutes after the interval, Moukoko completed his hat-trick. Following a swift counter-attack, he received the ball, charged to the edge of the box, and delivered a precise shot into the bottom left corner.
Shortly after the 62-minute mark, Copenhagen extended their lead to 6-0 when Silkeborg’s defence faltered again. This time, Elyounoussi located an unmarked Robert right in front of the goal, and the Brazilian made no error, thundering the ball into the top of the net.
But the scoring frenzy was not over yet. With just thirteen minutes remaining, William Clem delivered a fantastic cross to the back post, where Swedish striker Jordan Larsson arrived, powering a header past Larsen to seal the 7-0 rout.
