Stacey Marinkovich has made it clear that her Australian Diamonds squad will not take the Silver Ferns lightly, despite the ongoing coaching turmoil facing their opponents.
Following a successful series against South Africa, which lifted their spirits for the upcoming Constellation Cup, the Diamonds are no longer troubled by a shaky run of results in 2024.
However, the frustration stemming from last year’s defeat in the Constellation Cup remains etched in coach Marinkovich’s mind.

“The Constellation Cup is going to be a fiercely competitive event. New Zealand always comes prepared,” Marinkovich shared during her concluding press conference for the South Africa series on Sunday.
“They certainly demonstrated that last year … it’s crucial for us to bring our A-game. We need to continuously step up our performance.”
The Silver Ferns secured a 2-1 victory in the last series, marking their third win in this tournament since its inception in 2010.
Last year’s series was under the guidance of Dame Noeline Taurua, who has since been stood down following player complaints forwarded to the Players Association, indicating that the team environment was “psychologically unsafe” during their tour of Australia in January.
Taurua is known for her high fitness expectations and has been known to exclude players who fall short of the standards she sets.

An independent review has been initiated regarding the situation, and a lengthy mediation session of around 10 hours took place earlier this month, yet no resolution has been reached.
No timeline has been established concerning Taurua’s potential return to her role. Until a resolution is found, her assistant coaches will also remain sidelined.
Additionally, Gail Parata, a former Silver Fern and national selector, has departed from her position in support of Taurua.
In a social media announcement, Parata expressed her disappointment with how New Zealand Netball has managed Taurua’s situation, asserting that the “collective voice” of coaching staff is being overshadowed.
“The abrupt decision to stand down Dame Noeline Taurua and her coaching staff has left the coaching community in shock, causing many to question how we’ve arrived at this point,” Parata wrote on Facebook.
“This issue transcends an individual; it reflects the current state of coaching within New Zealand.”

“Dame Noeline is more than just a coach; she is a maestro in her field. She has uplifted numerous players and staff while proudly representing Aotearoa. Yet, not even she was shielded from this upheaval.
“If someone of Dame Noeline’s calibre can be sidelined in this manner, what does that convey to every coach across our system? That excellence and integrity no longer suffice? That politics have eclipsed performance? For many of us, this raises serious concerns.
“Numerous coaches throughout Aotearoa will be closely observing the developments, some feeling disheartened, others disillusioned, and others simply saddened by how it has come to this.
“If coaches and volunteers exit the arena, we risk losing decades of knowledge that New Zealand sport cannot afford to be without. The prevailing silence speaks volumes.
“If this is the new benchmark, we face significant troubles, not just in netball, but in all codes throughout Aotearoa.”
Parata also mentioned that she was the sole selector in New Zealand at the time of Taurua’s suspension.
Following Parata’s departure, the Players Association approved an agreement to streamline the selection panel from comprising the convenor of selectors, the head coach, and two additional selectors, down to a panel of three ahead of two major international series.
While the decision to simplify the selection panel was a pragmatic response to an urgent situation, Parata worries it could set a concerning precedent.
“Without a national selection team present, who ensured that athletes were assessed with the depth, objectivity, and care they deserve?” Parata queried.
“Those currently in positions have only been involved for a few weeks, raising serious questions about the foundation upon which selection choices are made.”
The Constellation Cup is set to kick off at John Cain Arena in Melbourne this Friday.
