The intensity of competition proved overwhelming for Tristan Boyer, who let loose a fiery tirade directed at the chair umpire after his first-round exit from the San Diego Open.
Ranked No. 113 in the world, Boyer struggled to keep pace as his Australian opponent, Alex Bolt, started to pull ahead in the second set.
Despite this, Boyer fought back to level the scores at 4-4, only for a time violation called by chair umpire Nick Flentie to set off his frustration.
In a moment of anger, Boyer was spotted kicking the fence behind his bench right as the time violation was announced, followed by a contentious out call in the subsequent rally.
He raised his concerns with Flentie after the tiebreak concluded, right before returning to the court to face Bolt’s serve.
Shortly after, Boyer found himself trailing yet again in another tiebreak, as Bolt tested his resolve in pursuit of a place in the second round.
Ultimately, Bolt’s strong performance proved too much for Boyer, who ended the match by hitting the ball into the net on match point, subsequently smashing his racquet into the ground.

Boyer momentarily paused his furious outburst to offer Bolt congratulations on his victory before redirecting his frustration towards Flentie.
“Unbelievable,” Boyer shouted.
“This is ridiculous. You blokes can’t seem to get anything right.
“It’s so infuriating. All over the place, atrocious calls. Just atrocious.”
Flentie attempted to clarify each disputed call, but Boyer interrupted him.
“What are you doing handing me a code violation?” Boyer pressed on.
“There are three people watching! This is the first round of a hundred. It’s absurd.
“We’re not on TV, no one is streaming it, and you’re issuing me a code violation? You’re being ridiculous.”
With one last violent smash of his racquet, Boyer gathered his belongings and left the court.
Bolt will be back in action against Govind Nanda in the second round on Thursday.
