The Rabbitohs may face fines from the NRL following the revelation of the real reason behind the significant delay to the start of their trial match against the Sea Eagles on Saturday.
Initially, it was thought that a medical emergency in the crowd was the cause of the holdup. However, AAP has reported that this was simply coincidental.
In response to the situation, the NRL has initiated an investigation after a scheduling error resulted in the absence of a paramedic at the venue when the match was set to kick off at 3.30pm.

Officials nearly had to cancel the match before medics from the crowd stepped in to fill the gap.
As the delay continued, the frustration among fans in the stands grew, and the game finally kicked off shortly after 5pm.
While a spectator at the event did suffer a suspected heart attack, they were quickly transported to hospital by an emergency ambulance dispatched to the scene.
The responsibility for booking paramedics for matches lies with the home clubs, and the NRL requires the presence of an intensive care paramedic alongside an additional medic.
Upon learning of the situation, the NRL contacted NSW Ambulance to arrange personnel, but availability could not be assured given the late notice.
A public announcement was subsequently made at the venue, urging any intensive care paramedics in the crowd to come forward.
Fortunately, one did appear, accompanied by an intensive care doctor, allowing the match to proceed.
In the previous season, the Eels faced a similar investigation after an NRLW match was delayed for the same reasons.
If the investigation concludes that a scheduling error caused the delay, the NRL may issue the Rabbitohs a breach notice, along with a potential fine.
Ultimately, Manly secured a 34-24 victory in the match.
