Formula 1 – Suzuka
Oscar Piastri showcased his finest performance of the 2026 FIA Formula 1 World Championship season during the Japanese Grand Prix, securing a commendable second place and marking his first podium of the year.
Starting from third position on the grid, the #81 McLaren driver executed a stellar launch and temporarily seized the lead in the opening laps.
Piastri maintained a strong pace in the early stages of the race and made his pit stop on lap 18 to safeguard his position. However, a safety car was called soon after, following a collision involving Haas’ Ollie Bearman, which altered the field.
This event allowed Kimi Antonelli to take the lead upon the restart, but Piastri remained firmly in contention.
Despite being pursued by the pack behind him, Piastri comfortably held on to second place, finishing just over 13 seconds behind Antonelli and a couple of seconds ahead of George Russell, Antonelli’s teammate.
This result signified Piastri’s first completed race of the season after a string of unfortunate events in the earlier rounds, making it a promising outing for both him and McLaren.
Piastri now sits sixth in the Drivers’ Championship standings with 21 points, just four points behind teammate Lando Norris as the contenders look forward to the Miami sprint weekend scheduled for 1-3 May.
IndyCar – Barber
Will Power demonstrated resilient driving at the 2026 Grand Prix of Alabama, transforming a tough start into a meaningful points-earning finish at Barber Motorsports Park.
After a disappointing qualifying session left him in 23rd on the grid, the Australian adeptly capitalised on opportunities, making his way up through the field.
His experience served him well during the first pit cycle, allowing him to continue advancing. By the midpoint of the race, he had firmly established himself within the midfield, displaying pace on par with drivers in the top ten.

Power ultimately finished the race in 12th place, having made a solid recovery. He maintained a clean race, extracting the most from a challenging qualifying position.
Next up for Power is a trip to California for the Grand Prix of Long Beach on 18-20 April.
Indy NXT – Barber
The trio of Jack Beeton, Nicolas Stati, and Lochie Hughes encountered a mixed bag during their Indy NXT double-header weekend at Barber Motorsports Park for the 2026 Grand Prix of Alabama.
In Race 1, Hughes managed to navigate early incidents to finish just outside the top ten, becoming the lowest-placed of the three Aussie drivers after a chaotic session that shuffled the hierarchy.

Beeton had a solid run, finishing ninth, with Stati close behind in tenth, both drivers collecting valuable championship points.
In Race 2, Hughes dropped to 16th place, despite staying competitive throughout. Meanwhile, Beeton repeated his top 10 performance, finishing in ninth again, while Stati secured another midfield result.

Overall, the Alabama weekend resulted in consistent points for all three Australian competitors. Beeton and Stati displayed reliability amidst the midfield, while Hughes aims to rebound in the upcoming round. All three remain in the hunt as the 2026 Indy NXT season progresses.
The next Indy NXT event is scheduled for the Indianapolis Grand Prix on 8-9 May.

GT World Challenge America – Sonoma
Tom Sargent from GMG Racing kicked off the 2026 GT World Challenge America season strongly at Sonoma, demonstrating both blistering speed and a class-winning Pro-Am performance alongside co-driver Kyle Washington.
“It’s always a box you want to tick,” Sargent commented.
“The team performed marvelously. The car was incredibly quick, the engineers provided a brilliant setup, and everyone in the crew executed flawlessly.”
“This is one of the best cars I’ve ever had the chance to drive, and it’s a privilege to compete here and achieve this victory.”
Sargent was on the pace from the get-go, topping the opening practice session in the GMG Racing Porsche and consistently staying near the front throughout the weekend.
He also made a strong impression in qualifying, clocking the fastest lap across both sessions with a time of 1:32.673, which allowed him to start 13th on the grid based on average lap times.

During the race, Sargent and Washington executed a composed performance, clinching victory in the Pro-Am class while finishing third overall.
The duo took advantage of a strong closing stint from Sargent, who dramatically reduced the gap to the leaders and recorded the fastest lap of the race.
Sargent’s impressive late-race speed underscored his acumen in endurance racing, as he pushed aggressively in the closing stages while managing tyre wear effectively.
The final hour of the race belonged to Sargent, earning him the Superfuel Hard Charger award.
When the red and yellow flags waved, Sargent had gained ten positions, claiming the Pro-Am victory and an excellent third-place overall finish.
Round 2 of the GT World Challenge America is set for 24-26 April at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.
