This weekend’s Christchurch Super 440 is set to make history as Supercars gears up for its long-anticipated debut on New Zealand’s South Island.
Ruapuna Raceway is primed to host its inaugural Supercars event, with teams and drivers finalising their preparations for the concluding leg of the season’s journey across the Tasman.
After the previous round in Taupō was disrupted by Cyclone Vaianu, officials have made adjustments to the schedule, incorporating an additional race into Friday’s agenda.
Action kicks off with a single practice session at 9:35 a.m. NZST, followed by qualifying at 2:15 p.m., before Race 10 of the 2026 season commences at 4:35 p.m.
Local hero Ryan Wood will be eager to build on his momentum after securing his first Supercars victory on home turf during the final race at Taupō.
The Wellington driver, representing Toyota, currently leads the standings for the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy, awarded to the driver accumulating the most points over the two rounds in New Zealand.
Attention will also be directed at Championship leader Brodie Kostecki, who claimed victory in the opening race last weekend and aims to carry his momentum into Christchurch.
Supercars veteran David Reynolds will reach a significant career milestone this weekend, as Saturday’s race will mark his 500th start in the category.
The competition for the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy remains fierce, with Broc Feeney close behind Wood with just four races left to determine this year’s champion.
This trophy pays tribute to the late Jason Richards, a cherished figure in Australasian motorsport and a well-respected competitor from New Zealand.
Fans can catch all the action live on Kayo and Foxtel in Australia, as well as via Sky Sport in New Zealand, as Christchurch gears up for an exceptional weekend of racing.
