Arne Slot is optimistic that Mohamed Salah’s impending departure will fuel a strong conclusion to Liverpool’s season, labelling the Egyptian as a true “legend” of the club.
Salah revealed last week that he will part ways with the English champions at the conclusion of the season, having netted 255 goals over nine seasons with the Reds.
The 33-year-old had a public disagreement with Slot last December, stating that he had “no relationship” with the Dutch manager after being benched for three consecutive matches.
However, since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations in January, Salah has reclaimed his position as a regular starter in what has been a challenging season for Liverpool.
Slot’s side currently occupies fifth place in the Premier League and is fighting to secure a spot in next season’s Champions League.
Despite this, the former Feyenoord coach remains hopeful of finishing the season on a high note in both the FA Cup and Champions League.
Liverpool will face Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday, followed by a clash against current holders Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite competition.
“I hope he can enhance his legacy in the coming weeks and months, as we still have significant goals to achieve, but he will forever be a legend at this club,” Slot expressed on Liverpool’s website.
“His dedication and eagerness to contribute every three days, coupled with his professionalism and commitment to the team, always wanting to score and ready to play… that truly stands out to me.”
Slot’s attacking options have been limited by the prolonged absence of Alexander Isak, who arrived in September for a British record transfer fee of £125 million.
The Swedish striker is expected to return to training following a broken leg sustained just over three months ago, and he is buoyed by Sweden’s recent qualification for the World Cup.
“I believe Alex is in a great place after Sweden qualified for the World Cup last night, and he will train with the team again for the first time tomorrow,” Slot remarked on Wednesday.
“Of course, this will be his first session back after three to four months, but it’s fantastic to have him back, as we all know the calibre of player we signed – he is an incredible striker.”
