The Wellington Phoenix is thrilled to announce that American centre-back Ellie Walker, the only player in the Phoenix to have played every minute of the current season, has extended her contract for the 2026-27 Ninja A-League season.
Teaming up with Mackenzie Barry and Marisa van der Meer in the club’s defensive setup, Wellington has achieved a club-record six clean sheets this season and has conceded merely 16 goals, three fewer than any rival team.
Walker joins fellow international teammates Brooke Nunn and Makala Woods in committing to a second season with the Phoenix, making her the 10th player already retained for the upcoming season.
Phoenix head coach Bev Priestman expressed her delight at securing yet another seasoned player:
“Ellie has demonstrated her value to our squad throughout this season.”
“Her fierce defensive skills and tenacity to regain possession have been crucial for our team.”
Walker stated that it was an effortless choice to renew her contract with the Phoenix.
“I feel truly at home here… Someone would really have to kick me out!”
Ellie Walker will take to the pitch for the finals-bound Wellington Phoenix this Sunday afternoon as they face off against the Western Sydney Wanderers in their final regular season home game at Porirua Park.
