Aleksandar Mitrovic’s Al Rayyan have clinched their inaugural QSL Cup title, thanks to the striker’s goal in a 2-0 win over Muaither SC in the final.
Roger Guedes kicked off the scoring in the dying moments of the first half, skillfully bypassing the goalkeeper to hand Al Rayyan an early advantage.
Mitrovic, the Serbian international, extended the lead eight minutes into the second half with a well-placed header from a free-kick.
Muaither struggled to mount a comeback thereafter, with Al Rayyan largely dictating the play until the final whistle, marking their first trophy victory since 2018.
After the match, Mitrovic expressed his delight, stating: “The feeling is incredible. We have put in a tremendous amount of effort to get to this point. It’s been a long season, but we’ve made it to the final.
“We are overjoyed because of the hard work we’ve put in, and hopefully, this will propel us forward, giving us the confidence to secure more titles in the future. It feels great to finally bring a trophy to the club after such a long wait.”
“Our objective was to win at least one trophy,” he articulated back in March.
“In recent years, the team has faced a lot of misfortune, coming close to winning several trophies but falling short each time. I hope that the goals I score will play a significant role in bringing a trophy home to the club.”
