Mikel Arteta has downplayed rumours regarding a contract extension at Arsenal, emphasising his complete dedication to the club ahead of Saturday’s Premier League home fixture against Bournemouth.
Reports from the British media suggest that the London side has held constructive preliminary discussions with Arteta regarding his current contract, which is set to expire at the conclusion of next season.
This news follows Arsenal’s diminished chances of silverware, now reduced from four competitions to two after their defeats to Manchester City in the League Cup final and to Championship side Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
Earlier this week, Arsenal achieved a 1-0 victory against Sporting in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final and are also on track for their first Premier League title in 22 years, leading the table with 70 points from 31 matches, nine points ahead of second-placed Manchester City.
When asked about the potential for a contract extension, Arteta expressed that his primary focus is on the current season.
“There’s no news on that front. We don’t have time to discuss it now,” Arteta informed reporters.
“Our entire focus is on what we need to accomplish from now until the end of the season.
“I am wholeheartedly committed here. I’m really happy, and my family is well. I have plenty of ambition and things to achieve at this club. For the moment, we are in a good position.”
Eberechi Eze returned to training on Thursday following his recovery from injury, but Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Piero Hincapie, Riccardo Calafiori, and Jurrien Timber were among those absent.
Arteta indicated that forward Eze would be available for Saturday’s match but did not provide updates on the other sidelined players.
Arteta also commended opposition manager Andoni Iraola, who has guided Bournemouth to 13th place in the standings with 42 points.
“What he has achieved alongside the club is remarkable,” the Spaniard stated.
“The consistency they’ve demonstrated and the way they’ve gone about it, despite the number of players they’ve sold, shows how they have reinvented themselves.
