The Rioli family has been a source of brilliance at the MCG for many years.
This Easter Saturday, it was Maurice Rioli Jr. who had fans on their feet, showcasing a stunning, high-flying mark that could easily become a contender for mark of the year.
As the son of the late Norm Smith Medallist Maurice Rioli and a first cousin to the four-time premiership winner Cyril Rioli, junior demonstrated his family’s impressive football legacy during Richmond’s match against Port Adelaide.
The Tigers’ energetic forward soared above Logan Evans to take an incredible grab. Although the footy hit him square in the forehead, his quick reflexes and secure grip allowed him to hold on to it.
In a fitting conclusion to the play, he returned to convert the goal, sending the Richmond supporters into raptures.

“What a fantastic mark,” Gerard Healy commented on Fox Footy’s broadcast.
“Put a saddle on him; he jumped so high, plucked it on the way down, left-handed — it had it all.”
Sadly for the Tigers, however, the day didn’t turn out as they hoped, with the team facing a 42-point defeat, going down to the Power 13.12 (90) to 6.12 (48).
After four rounds, the rebuilding Tigers are still searching for their first victory this season, having lost to Carlton, Gold Coast, Fremantle, and now Port Adelaide.
