Former Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama has expressed his support for the appointment of new manager Roberto de Zerbi.
Wanyama made his comments about De Zerbi while announcing his retirement on Friday.
The celebrated Kenyan player remarked, “I’ve kept a close eye on him. Wherever he’s been, he’s managed to enhance teams.
“I’ve admired De Zerbi for a long time, particularly for his work with Sassuolo. Look at what he achieved at Shakhtar, Brighton, and Marseille. He transforms teams so they aren’t just surviving but are genuine contenders.
“I genuinely believe he is the ideal person for Tottenham. He will undoubtedly help them stay afloat.
“Initially, he might need to adjust his principles, but he possesses significant experience; he understands what’s lacking and what needs to be done.”
Regarding Tottenham’s prospects, Wanyama remains hopeful: “It’s been challenging for the coaches at Tottenham this season due to the numerous injuries. At various points, they’ve had 10 to 15 players unavailable, which certainly hasn’t helped.
“The club has tried several strategies, but it’s tough when the squad isn’t fully united.
“If they can get Kudus, Maddison, and Bentancur back, they could play pivotal roles in turning things around. Also, having Solanke back to his best will significantly strengthen their cohesion as a unit.”
