An impressive second-half display saw Manchester City triumph with a crucial 3-0 win over Chelsea, marking a pivotal moment in the Premier League title race and extending their unbeaten streak against the Blues to 13 matches.
The match began with Chelsea applying early pressure, but it was the home side that looked more threatening.
A quick attack from the Blues ended with Cole Palmer’s shot hitting the side netting, while Joao Pedro saw his attempt deflected out for a corner by Abdukodir Khusanov before linking up with Marc Cucurella for a goal that was ultimately disallowed for offside.
Pedro Neto weaved through the defence, outsmarting Rodri before his shot was stopped by Gianluigi Donnarumma. Although Robert Sanchez didn’t face a challenge until the 34th minute, he was up to the task, brilliantly saving Bernardo Silva’s shot following a cutback from Nico O’Reilly.
O’Reilly was once again the architect as Rayan Cherki found space at the edge of the box, but his shot was disappointingly directed straight at Sanchez.

Antoine Semenyo made a dangerous run inside but dragged his shot just past the post, while Andrey Santos headed off target as the first half came to a close.
The Cityzens returned from the break with renewed energy, and after Erling Haaland had his shot blocked by Jorrel Hato, they found the net within six minutes of the restart as O’Reilly shook off Santos and headed home Cherki’s cross.
Six minutes later, Cherki added to his assist tally for the season, reaching ten as he cleverly glided along the edge of Chelsea’s box before finding Marc Guehi with a pinpoint pass, which the centre-back converted with precision.
After igniting the celebrations, O’Reilly picked up an injury and had to leave the pitch, but the City supporters’ joy continued just four minutes later, as Jeremy Doku combined with Cherki to dispossess Moises Caicedo and score, leading to chants of “Are you watching Arsenal?” from the away fans.
Although Khusanov almost produced a spectacular strike, he was off target, and the hosts showed no sign of a revival, with Donnarumma saving a header from Cucurella.
This victory for City ended their streak of back-to-back draws in the Premier League and allowed them to capitalise on Arsenal’s defeat to Bournemouth. They now sit six points behind the Gunners with a game in hand and a crucial match against the leaders looming next week.
For Chelsea, this loss marked their third consecutive league defeat for the first time since May 2023, leaving them four points adrift of fifth-placed Liverpool.
