Paris St Germain’s manager, Luis Enrique, commended his team for maintaining their focus amidst their upcoming Champions League playoff, as they extended their unbeaten streak in Ligue 1 to 22 matches with a solid 1-0 victory over Toulouse on Saturday.
PSG currently tops Ligue 1 with 56 points, maintaining a comfortable 10-point advantage over second-placed Olympique de Marseille.
They also demonstrated their prowess in the Champions League playoffs by securing a 3-0 victory in Tuesday’s first leg against fellow Ligue 1 side Brest, whom they will face again in the return leg on Wednesday.
“This was a league match set between two Champions League fixtures, where it can be all too easy to lose your focus. However, I believe it’s a significant asset we possess, being able to compete at such a high level,” Luis Enrique expressed during a press conference.
The coach also highlighted the importance of having a robust squad.
“The aim remains the same, regardless of who dons the Paris shirt. Our goal was to ensure we had numerous players capable of competing and winning, irrespective of the starting line-up,” he added.
Enrique was pleased to secure the points against a well-prepared Toulouse side, which he felt deserved respect despite their position in the mid-table.
“Toulouse always presents a challenge, particularly when they are well-organised defensively,” the manager remarked.
He also noted his satisfaction with the increasing adaptability of his squad, emphasising that the team spirit is crucial to PSG’s ongoing success.
