If Geelong defender Oisin Mullin has his way, his performances on the field will overshadow any light-hearted nicknames in his third season at the top level, especially the amusing comparison to Collingwood star Nick Daicos.
Former Cats teammate Zach Tuohy labelled the 25-year-old the “Irish Nick Daicos” following his debut in Round 11 of 2023.
This season, the ex-Gaelic footballer is keen to move away from that tag.
“I think Zach’s comment was a bit taken out of context, which is definitely amusing. He has since apologised to me for it,” Mullin shared in an interview with 9News Melbourne on Sunday.
Mullin was unfamiliar with AFL until 2019, but he has already played 18 games and experienced two finals since joining the Cats.

This year, the club expects Mullin to solidify his place in the Cats’ best 22, particularly on the half-back line.
“Fingers crossed, that’s definitely the aim,” he added.
Regarding his distinctive ponytail, which he cut last season to raise funds for childhood cancer research, Mullin plans to keep his hair short this year to sidestep any further amusing comparisons to a new teammate.
“I’m more than happy to let Bailey (Smith) take the glare this season,” he chuckled.

The Cats have set a goal of reaching 100,000 members in 2025, a milestone the club has never achieved in its 161-year history.
“It’s incredibly important for us players to receive such tremendous support from members across Australia and around the globe,” Mullin remarked.
“It’s truly remarkable.”
Geelong is set to take on Brisbane at the Gabba for the Opening Round on Thursday, 6 March.
