Fiorentina extended their unbeaten streak in Serie A to five matches (W3, D2), moving eight points clear of the relegation zone thanks to a first-half strike from Robin Gosens, which secured a 1-0 victory over Lazio at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
While Lazio is known for playing tight contests away from home, with only five first-half goals registered in their 15 league away matches this season, the visitors initially took control of the game.
Fiorentina’s goalkeeper David de Gea made two crucial saves to keep the score level—first diving to thwart an early attempt from Mattia Zaccagni, then using his legs to deny Matteo Cancellieri shortly after.
The first half appeared to fizzle into an uninspiring stalemate until an unexpected breakthrough occurred.
Gosens got the better of Manuel Lazzari to connect with a cross from Jack Harrison, and although the German’s header lacked pace, its placement was sufficient to beat Lazio’s keeper, Edoardo Motta.
After facing a heavy defeat to Crystal Palace midweek which dented their UEFA Conference League ambitions, Fiorentina has shifted their focus solely to survival in Serie A.
For much of the match, La Viola looked in control as they chased a vital three points, with their most significant moment of concern arising in the 65th minute when they awaited a lengthy VAR review for a potential Lazio penalty. However, referee Michael Fabbri upheld his initial decision and dismissed the appeal.
Lazio’s attempts to mount a comeback fell flat, with the Biancocelesti managing only a single shot on target during the second half, as Maurizio Sarri’s side saw their slim hopes of cracking the top six dissipate in the damp Tuscan evening.

The home crowd experienced another uplifting moment as their team continued to rebuild after a rocky start to the season and marked a positive recovery from their disappointing outing in England.
