Bruno Fernandes, the midfielder for Portugal, has conveyed optimism that he and his fellow teammates can help solidify Cristiano Ronaldo’s legacy by securing victory at the 2026 World Cup.
The 41-year-old Ronaldo is poised to participate in an unprecedented sixth World Cup this June, a tournament anticipated to mark the final significant chapter of his illustrious career.
“It would be absolutely incredible to conclude this last World Cup with Cristiano (Ronaldo) lifting the trophy,” Fernandes remarked in an interview with Wayne Rooney, featured in a BBC article released on Friday.
“I genuinely hope we can turn that dream into reality, not solely for Portugal but also for everything Cristiano has contributed to football and to the world,” added the Portuguese midfielder and captain of Manchester United.

Ronaldo, regarded as one of the greatest players to have never clinched a World Cup title, holds the record for the most goals in international football, with 143 to his name.
The five-time Ballon d’Or recipient played a pivotal role in Portugal’s Euro 2016 title-winning squad and has celebrated victory in the Nations League on two occasions.
Portugal’s first match in Group K is against the Democratic Republic of Congo on June 17, followed by a clash with Uzbekistan on June 23, both taking place in Houston. Their final group fixture is set for June 27 against Colombia in Miami.
The World Cup is scheduled to run from June 11 to July 19 across Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
