Dominant Paris Saint-Germain Secure Their Historic 13th Ligue 1 Championship

Paris Saint-Germain have clinched a record-extending 13th Ligue 1 title, marking their fourth consecutive victory, following a 1-0 win against Angers on Saturday. This triumph ensures they retain their championship status with six matches remaining in the season.

The three-time defending champions have showcased an outstanding performance throughout the campaign, securing their title by early April.

With their victory against Angers, PSG is also on the hunt for an unbeaten season, boasting 23 wins and five draws from 28 matches.

Captain Marquinhos, who has been with the club since 2013, has now become the first player in history to achieve 10 Ligue 1 titles.

“It’s incredible, and I’m genuinely delighted. Remaining with a top-tier team for such a long time is a significant challenge. These titles will be remembered in history. Our aim is to win it all,” the Brazilian centre-back stated to beIN Sports.

“It hurts not to secure the French championship; I’ve experienced that disappointment twice. This team deserves the victory.”

“It’s in our DNA to give our all on the pitch, embrace an aggressive philosophy, and sweat for our shirts in every match, regardless of our opponents. Since childhood, I’ve played in teams that embody this mentality,” Marquinhos added.

This season, Luis Enrique’s squad has garnered significant praise for moving away from stars such as Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe, opting instead for a youthful and French-centric team.

Displaying outstanding football, players like Vitinha, Bradley Barcola, and Desire Doue have shone brightly, while Ousmane Dembele is enjoying his best season to date.

This season, Dembele has netted 32 goals and provided seven assists across 40 appearances, playing a key role in leading his team to the title and into the Champions League quarter-finals.

However, PSG are not resting on their laurels, with the tantalising prospect of achieving a historic treble still within reach.

Following their Ligue 1 success, they’ll focus on their long-standing ambition of claiming a first Champions League trophy, with a last-eight showdown against Premier League side Aston Villa scheduled for April 9th and 15th.

Additionally, they are set to face Reims in the Coupe de France final on May 24th.
