RB Leipzig secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach at the Red Bull Arena, solidifying their position in third place on the Bundesliga table following their third consecutive league win.
Much of the first half’s action unfolded within the initial 30 minutes, with Ridle Baku arguably creating the two clearest chances.
Just 13 minutes in, he made a remarkable touch from a precise pass inside the penalty area, but Moritz Nicolas was quick to react and made a vital save. Then, in the 28th minute, after skillfully evading a challenge, Baku created a good opportunity but unfortunately fired over the bar from a promising position.
In between those key moments, Joe Scally had what appeared to be a promising cross intercepted by a vigilant Leipzig defence, while Rocco Reitz experienced frustration when his long-range effort struck a defender.
The match then settled into a somewhat disjointed affair leading up to half-time, with Gladbach perhaps feeling satisfied to head into the break goalless, given their history at this venue.

The trend continued after the break, with Leipzig’s full-backs posing a constant threat, yet Gladbach’s defence held firm under pressure.
In fact, the visitors came close to taking the lead with 20 minutes remaining, as Haris Tabakovic just missed the target following an excellent build-up.
However, Leipzig’s attacking overloading remained the main aspect shaping the game’s flow, with David Raum finding space in the box only for Nicolas to again thwart the danger.
Moments later, it was Xaver Schlager’s turn to be disappointed, as a clever build-up involving Baku allowed him a chance to score, but once more, Nicolas was up to the task with a low save, leaving everyone frustrated.
Eventually, Yan Diomande broke through Gladbach’s defence with just 10 minutes remaining. A surge forward resulted in Christoph Baumgartner sliding the ball to the young star, who emphatically smashed it home off the post, marking his 11th goal in a standout season.
Gladbach, on the other hand, didn’t appear capable of pulling level after falling behind, yet they nearly equalised when Fabio Chiarodia struck the crossbar with an open goal beckoning in a rare moment of defensive weakness from Leipzig.
A hurried clearance reminded spectators that complacency could prove costly, but Leipzig managed to steady themselves and secure the victory, maintaining their strong bid for a UEFA Champions League spot in the coming season.
