RB Leipzig triumphed over Borussia Monchengladbach with a narrow 1-0 victory at the Red Bull Arena, solidifying their grip on third place in the Bundesliga table following their third straight league win.
The majority of the first half’s significant happenings unfolded within the first 30 minutes, with Ridle Baku arguably having the two clearest opportunities.
Just 13 minutes into the match, he had a brilliant touch after receiving a precise pass in the box, but Moritz Nicolas showcased his skills by making a crucial save. Then, at the 28-minute mark, after expertly sidestepping a challenge to create space, Baku unfortunately blasted the ball over the bar from a fantastic position.
Earlier in the half, Joe Scally saw what seemed to be a promising cross thwarted by a vigilant Leipzig defence, while Rocco Reitz experienced frustration when his long-range shot was deflected off a Leipzig player.
The match continued in a stop-start manner leading up to half-time, with Gladbach likely feeling content to go into the break without conceding, as they had never previously clinched a victory at this venue.

The pattern continued after the break, with Leipzig’s full-backs appearing particularly dangerous, though Gladbach’s defence held firm under the pressure.
The visitors’ defensive organisation almost rewarded them 20 minutes from time when Haris Tabakovic narrowly missed the target following a promising cross.
However, the Leipzig overlaps were still dictating the match’s flow, and David Raum found himself in the area, only for Nicolas to come to Gladbach’s rescue once more.
Next, Xaver Schlager was left lamenting his luck, as after Tabakovic was dispossessed in the box, a quick passage of play allowed Baku to pass it to Schlager, but he couldn’t get past Nicolas, who made yet another low save to heighten the frustrations.
Ultimately, Yan Diomande broke through Gladbach’s resilience with just 10 minutes remaining, as Christoph Baumgartner’s clever pass sent the teenage talent racing through on goal, and Diomande fierce response found the net within the near post – marking his 11th goal in a standout season.
Gladbach, for their part, hadn’t presented much evidence that they would level the score after falling behind – yet they came close when Fabio Chiarodia struck the crossbar with the goal practically at his mercy, a rare lapse in Leipzig’s defence.
A rushed clearance reminded everyone present that pressure was still on, but Leipzig managed to regroup and secure a victory that keeps them well-placed for a UEFA Champions League spot next season.
