Brad Fittler has sounded the alarm after the Parramatta Eels’ dismal home loss to the Gold Coast Titans, urging the team to quickly address their issues before facing the Bulldogs this Sunday.
The Eels, in a visibly distressed state, were jeered off the field following a brutal 52-10 defeat, marking their worst performance in what has been a rocky start to the season. Over the first six matches, the team has conceded an astonishing 226 points.
In an interview with Nine’s Today, Fittler pointed out the concerning state of the club’s defence.
“Fortunately, I was working and didn’t have to witness that game, but it certainly sounded dreadful,” Fittler remarked.
“Looking at the stats, they’re currently averaging around 37 points against them each week.”
“That’s simply not a formula for winning.”

He also acknowledged the growing injury list, with Sam Tuivaiti and Kelma Tuilagi joining the ranks of the injured and unavailable for the upcoming clash against the Bulldogs.
“I understand there are injuries—many teams face this—but defending your line is crucial,” he remarked.
“The Bulldogs had a brilliant performance against Penrith on Thursday night, so this upcoming game will attract a big crowd. If the Eels fail to improve this week, it could be a humiliating situation.”
This was only the second occasion in the Titans’ history that they have scored 50 points, leaving the Eels disgraced and exhibiting a renewed spirit under Josh Hannay.
Parramatta head coach Jason Ryles appeared crestfallen in the aftermath, admitting that fans were “well within their rights” to voice their discontent.

“We just conceded 50 points at our home ground, so the supporters have every right to react that way. Their involvement is crucial to our efforts, and it’s disheartening to let them down like that,” Ryles expressed.
“It’s really disappointing. I didn’t see it coming. There were some warning signs that were concerning.
“It’s certainly a challenge for us.
“What frustrated me most today was the lack of spirit. Last week against the Tigers, I witnessed a level of fight I had never seen before, yet today was a stark contrast.”
“Some players made choices out there that hopefully they won’t repeat, so we need to address this swiftly.”

“Anyone stepping in for the injured players needs to realise that the NRL is a demanding environment, and if you’re not fully prepared from the onset, this is the kind of result you face,” he warned.
“Overall, we must determine why we lacked that drive today. I’ve not witnessed anything like this from this group during my 18-month tenure here.”
“That was probably the most disheartening part.”

Captain Mitch Moses was equally perplexed by the team’s display, confessing he “didn’t really have many answers…to be honest.”
“We’ve consistently lost our opening phases this season, and before you know it, you’re down by 18 or 20 points and scrambling to catch up.
“That certainly complicates matters.”
Parramatta is set to face the Bulldogs again on their home ground this Sunday afternoon.
