Bournemouth midfielder Ryan Christie is set to miss the remainder of the season following surgery on a persistent groin issue, as confirmed by manager Andoni Iraola on Friday.
The 30-year-old Scotland international’s absence is a significant setback for Bournemouth, who are striving for European qualification for the first time in the club’s history.
The South Coast team currently sits 10th in the Premier League table with 45 points, trailing fourth-placed Chelsea by eight points, with seven matches remaining.
Christie has contributed two goals and three assists across 32 appearances this season.
“Christie is out for the season. He required surgery and I believe he has been playing through pain all year,” Iraola stated to the media.
“His body finally signalled to him, ‘That’s enough, you can’t continue playing’. Our focus now is to ensure he recovers well so he can join the others in pre-season training.”
“He will definitely not return for the rest of this season.”
Bournemouth’s next match is against eighth-placed Fulham on Monday.
