Barcelona are prioritising strong performances over the LaLiga table, as coach Hansi Flick (59) stated on Sunday that there’s still a long journey ahead in the title race.
They have a chance to reclaim the top spot when they face sixth-placed Rayo Vallecano at the Olympic Stadium on Monday, following dropped points by both of their main competitors on Saturday.
Current leaders Real Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw at Osasuna, while Atletico Madrid also finished 1-1 against Celta Vigo at home.
Real Madrid sit at 51 points from 24 matches, just one point ahead of Atletico, while Barcelona is in third place with 48 points—having one game in hand and a superior goal difference.
“We shouldn’t be focusing on the standings. There’s a lot of football still to be played, and our aim is to deliver solid performances,” Flick mentioned to the media.
“I sense that the team is gaining confidence and enjoying their football more with each match. That’s truly the most crucial aspect.
“I believe our players are eager to demonstrate their capabilities and mindset, which is fantastic for the coaching staff.
“We are determined to keep improving, and I genuinely think that’s what we are achieving,” the German added.

After struggling in LaLiga last year, particularly in the absence of 17-year-old winger Lamine Yamal due to injury, Barcelona is now riding an 11-match unbeaten streak across all competitions.
Flick, however, remains cautious about Rayo Vallecano, who are currently on a nine-match unbeaten run in LaLiga.
“When I came on board, I was informed that Rayo are a tenacious team. I’ve heard this consistently. Their coach (Inigo Perez) is doing an exceptional job, and they are achieving impressive results,” Flick commented.
“While it’s crucial for us to take the lead and build confidence, my primary focus is on our own performance. That is what we can control.
“The first objective is to deliver 90 minutes of quality play and secure the win.”
The Catalan club has received a boost with the return of Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo from injury.
