Marcus Rashford (27) has finalised a loan transfer to Aston Villa from Manchester United, as announced by the Midlands outfit on Sunday evening.
The England international, who has earned 60 caps for the Three Lions, will be with Villa until the season concludes.
Rashford, a product of the academy at Old Trafford, has netted 138 goals in over 400 appearances and has celebrated victories in the Europa League, two FA Cups, and two League Cups during his time at his childhood club.
Villa’s move for Rashford comes on the heels of Colombia striker Jhon Duran’s sale to Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr last Friday.
This transfer followed a disappointing 2-0 defeat to relegation-threatened Wolves on Saturday, after which Villa manager Unai Emery expressed that the club “need new players”.
Throughout the January transfer window, the 27-year-old had been tipped for moves to AC Milan and Barcelona, while his representatives are rumoured to have engaged in discussions with Tottenham and West Ham.
A versatile forward, Rashford is capable of playing across the front line and has scored 17 goals for England, having represented his nation in two World Cups and two European Championships.
A Fresh Start for Rashford?
This temporary switch to Villa provides Rashford an opportunity to restore his reputation following a dramatic decline in form over the past two years.
A revitalised Rashford could prove invaluable to Villa as they seek to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League and advance in the Champions League, where they are competing in the last 16.
Rashford has been contemplating a departure from Old Trafford since expressing his desire for a “new challenge” after being dropped by United manager Ruben Amorim for the Manchester derby in December.
Since then, the England forward has been absent for all 12 of United’s matches, with Amorim seemingly losing patience with him lately, claiming he would prefer to include the club’s 63-year-old goalkeeping coach in the squad instead.
