Brentford managed to come back from a goal down to secure a 1-1 draw with Arsenal in the Premier League (PL), marking the Bees’ first point against a top-three side this season after four previous encounters.
Mikel Arteta opted for a rotated line-up, keeping Wednesday’s upcoming clash with Real Madrid in mind, which resulted in a slow start to the match.
Despite the sluggish beginning, the Gunners created chances, including a deflected shot from Ethan Nwaneri that went wide, and a Thomas Partey header that was awkwardly handled by Christian Norgaard.
The first shot on target came in the 22nd minute from Brentford’s Kristoffer Ajer, who sprinted down the pitch to connect with Bryan Mbeumo’s pass, but saw his shot thwarted by the legs of David Raya.
Kieran Tierney looked set to score with a header from Nwaneri’s cross just four minutes later, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
Oleksandr Zinchenko then tested Mark Flekken with a low shot that was palmed away, while Gabriel Martinelli was denied a chance by a crucial block from Ajer after receiving a well-placed pass from William Saliba.
Leandro Trossard attempted to turn the tide, heading over from a corner taken by Nwaneri, followed by two ambitious long-range efforts that did not find the target.
Brentford held firm against early pressure in the second half and had moments of brilliance, including a lovely ball from Keane Lewis-Potter that won them a corner.
Arsenal broke the deadlock on the hour mark from a rapid counter-attack stemming from another Brentford corner, with David Raya rolling the ball out for Declan Rice, who surged forward to set up Thomas Partey for a first-time finish.
Despite the introduction of Arsenal’s regular starters, Brentford fought back and equalised in the 74th minute when a corner was not adequately cleared, allowing Ajer to head Michael Kayode’s cross to Yoane Wissa, who struck home with an impromptu shot past Raya.
Kayode then halted Bukayo Saka in his tracks after the Arsenal player had dispossessed Flekken, and in the dying seconds, Saka’s shot curled agonisingly wide of the post as Brentford secured back-to-back draws, climbing above Crystal Palace into 11th place.

Although Arsenal failed to secure all three points, they extended their unbeaten streak to nine matches as they prepare for their second leg in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals against Real Madrid.
