Arsenal reported a loss of £17.7 million for the 2023/24 season, even with a successful return to the Champions League, which saw the club achieve a record revenue of £616.6 million.
The Gunners narrowly missed out on finishing second in the Premier League, placing just behind Manchester City. They also reached the quarter-finals of their first Champions League appearance since the 2016/17 season, where they were eliminated by Bayern Munich.
The club’s return to Europe’s top-tier competition resulted in an impressive £71 million increase in broadcasting revenue, alongside an additional £29 million in matchday earnings.
Commercial revenue also saw substantial growth, climbing to £218.3 million, largely due to the renewal of the partnership with Emirates for stadium and shirt sponsorship, and the sale of naming rights for the training facility to Sobha Realty.
On the other hand, wage expenses surged to £327.8 million, up from £234.8 million.
While the financial figures reflect an improvement from the £52.1 million loss reported in the previous year, challenges remain.
“The club remains fully compliant with all relevant financial sustainability regulations established by UEFA and the Premier League,” Arsenal stated in a press release.
“Achieving consecutive qualifications for the UEFA Champions League in 2024/25 for both our men’s and women’s teams marks a significant step forward for the club, and we are enthusiastic about a thrilling conclusion to the 2024/25 season.”
Currently, Arsenal holds second place in the Premier League, trailing Liverpool by seven points, with 13 matches left to play. Additionally, they have advanced to the last 16 of the Champions League.
