Al Ain has officially appointed Vladimir Ivic (47), former manager of Watford and Maccabi Tel Aviv, as the successor to Portuguese coach Leonardo Jardim (50), the UAE Pro League club announced on Tuesday.
Ivic has inked a contract for a duration of 18 months. He took the helm at Watford in August 2020 after the team’s relegation from the Premier League the previous season, but his tenure was cut short just four months later.
Jardim, whose contract with Al Ain was set to conclude following the newly formatted Club World Cup in July, joined the club in November after managing teams in both Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
The decision to part ways with Jardim came swiftly, following the holders’ 2-1 defeat to Al Rayyan in the Asian Champions League, which resulted in their exit from the tournament without a single victory.
Additionally, Al Ain managed just one win in their last five league outings.
Currently, Al Ain sits with two points from seven matches in the Asian Champions League and holds fourth place in the UAE Pro League after 14 fixtures.
