Kylian Mbappe, the striker for Real Madrid, is uncertain for the upcoming Clasico on May 10th due to a thigh injury, as confirmed by the club on Monday.
“He has been diagnosed with an injury to the semitendinosus muscle in his left leg,” stated Los Blancos in an official announcement, following the French captain’s departure due to injury during Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Real Betis in La Liga last Friday.
Currently sitting second in the Spanish top division, 11 points behind leaders Barcelona, Madrid will take on Espanyol on Sunday before clashing with the Catalan giants the following weekend.
While Madrid initially suspected a muscular overload regarding Mbappe, subsequent examinations revealed that the star striker has indeed sustained an injury.
If Madrid were to drop points against Espanyol in his absence, and Barcelona manages to beat Osasuna on Saturday, Hansi Flick’s squad will secure the championship for the second consecutive year.
This season, Mbappe has faced several injury setbacks, raising concerns in France with the World Cup set to commence in the United States, Canada, and Mexico on June 11th.
The 27-year-old, who was part of the world champion team in 2018, endured a knee problem that kept him sidelined for two months, marking the most extended absence of his career, which he described as causing him “frustration, anger and anxiety.”
