Lyon secured their third consecutive Ligue 1 victory, with Roman Yaremchuk netting a brace to lead Les Gones to a 3-2 triumph over Auxerre at the Groupama Stadium.
Lyon’s recent performances have been quite erratic leading up to this spring match, as they transitioned from a remarkable 13-game winning streak to a frustrating phase of nine matches without a win.
Nevertheless, Les Gones entered this afternoon’s fixture looking revitalised after winning back-to-back matches, including a notable 2-1 victory away against Paris Saint-Germain last weekend. They started the game brightly, with Afonso Moreira picking up the ball on the right side of the box, but his delivery to Yaremchuk just missed the mark, leaving the Ukrainian unable to connect.
Yaremchuk was soon on the scoresheet, though. In the 19th minute, Abner Vinicius sent a cross from the left, perfectly setting up the striker to steer the ball into the net for his second league goal since his loan arrival in January.
However, Lyon suffered a setback just after the half-hour mark when Orel Mangala had to exit due to injury.
To compound Lyon’s difficulties, Auxerre pulled level shortly after, with a free-kick from distance drifting into the box and being headed back across goal.
The home side struggled to recover, and after a scrappy series of exchanges in the area, former Lyon player Sinaly Diomande snuck in to score, quieting much of the crowd.

Lyon regained their momentum quickly after the break, coming close to retaking the lead early in the second half, but Endrick’s attempt inside the area was superbly denied by Theo De Percin.
The Auxerre keeper, however, was powerless to stop Lyon’s captain Corentin Tolisso, who scored in the 66th minute from a cutback by Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
Feeling the surge, Lyon extended their lead just five minutes later when Tolisso turned into the role of provider, delivering an early cross that was deftly turned in by Yaremchuk.
In response, Christophe Pelissier made a triple substitution to shift momentum, and his team managed to pull one back with just two minutes left in regulation time when Bryan Okoh unleashed a stunning drive from outside the box that caught Dominik Greif off guard.
However, it proved to be too late for Auxerre, as Lyon held firm to secure all three points, reinforcing their position in the top three of Ligue 1. Auxerre, on the other hand, finds themselves in a precarious relegation play-off spot, four points adrift of safety with only three matches remaining.
