Andrej Kramaric’s two penalties, the second converted in the dying moments of the match, earned Hoffenheim a vital 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund. This victory, their first in five Bundesliga encounters, has reignited their hopes for UEFA Champions League (UCL) qualification.
The match kicked off with a flurry, setting the stage for a thrilling first half. Hoffenheim nearly struck early when Tim Lemperle connected with a deep cross, only to see his volley crash off the crossbar, leaving goalkeeper Gregor Kobel helpless.
While Hoffenheim created several promising chances, Dortmund struggled to find their rhythm, coming closest when Daniel Svensson’s header sailed just above the crossbar.
As the first half drew to a close, the match appeared to be heading for a stalemate until a strange incident awarded Hoffenheim a penalty shortly before the break.
As Niklas Sule fell to the ground, it seemed he had successfully blocked a shot, but, controversially, a VAR review determined that he had handled the ball while down, resulting in a penalty for the hosts.
Kramaric maintained his composure amid the long wait and expertly placed the ball past Kobel, sending Hoffenheim into half-time with the lead.

In the second half, Dortmund began to exert pressure, forcing Hoffenheim further back, yet clear opportunities were scarce. Niko Kovac opted to bring on top scorer Serhou Guirassy despite worries over a pre-existing injury.
Even with the attacking substitutions, Dortmund’s anticipated surge never materialised, as Hoffenheim defended robustly and maintained their composure.
Just when the match appeared safe for the home side, Guirassy created a stunning moment by turning and unleashing a precise shot from the edge of the box that flew past Oliver Baumann.
The drama was not finished, though, as a VAR check revealed a handball by Julian Ryerson inside the area, presenting Hoffenheim with a chance to reclaim the lead from the penalty spot.
With nerves of steel, Kramaric converted the penalty deep into stoppage time, sealing the victory for Hoffenheim.
This win marks Hoffenheim’s first home victory against Dortmund since December 2019 (L5) and brings them within two points of the top four, having played one game more than the two clubs above them. For Dortmund, the defeat opens the door for Bayern Munich to potentially clinch the Bundesliga title in their upcoming match.
