The son of rugby league icon Brad Fittler has been selected to represent Australia in their under-20 Rugby Championship tour of South Africa.
Zach Fittler, a powerful centre, has made the choice in recent years to pursue a career in rugby union over rugby league. He is part of a 31-player squad set to compete in three matches at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha, located in South Africa’s eastern region.
Previously, Fittler played rugby league for the Roosters in competitions such as the Harold Matthews Cup and SG Ball, and was a junior representative for the NSW Blues. However, he decided to focus on a professional rugby union career and signed a two-year development contract with the NSW Waratahs in September 2024.
Fittler also showcased his skills as a member of the first XV at The Scots College and played a key role in the Waratahs’ triumph during the under-16 National Championship in 2022.
“We’re eager to build on the momentum gained from our week-long camp in Coffs Harbour and translate that into three challenging matches in South Africa,” stated Chris Whitaker, coach of the Australian under-20 team.

“The under-20 Rugby Championship presents us with another chance to evolve as a team against strong opposition in distinctive environments.
“Our squad is primed to take on the challenge and is eager to represent Australia on the global stage.”
