Harry Maguire, the Manchester United centre-back, will be sidelined for their Premier League clash against Chelsea after the Football Association handed him a one-match suspension due to a misconduct charge, announced on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old England international recently extended his contract with United until 2027, but now faces disciplinary action after being shown a red card in the 78th minute during a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth last month.
The FA stated that Maguire was accused of “acting in an improper manner and/or using abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards the fourth official following his red card.”
Maguire has accepted the charge and will also face a £30,000 fine.
Adding to United’s woes, Argentine defender Lisandro Martinez will also be unavailable for the upcoming three matches—against Chelsea, Brentford, and Liverpool—after his dismissal for violent conduct during Monday’s 2-1 home loss to Leeds United.
Martinez received a red card in the 56th minute for yanking the hair of Leeds striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Currently sitting third in the league table with 55 points from 32 matches, Manchester United will be visiting sixth-placed Chelsea on Saturday.
