Manchester United defender Harry Maguire will be absent for their Premier League clash against Chelsea after being handed a one-match suspension due to a misconduct charge, the Football Association confirmed on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old England star, who recently agreed to a new deal that keeps him at Old Trafford until 2027, faced charges following his dismissal in the 78th minute during United’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth last month.
The FA stated that Maguire was accused of “acting in an improper manner and/or using abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards the fourth official after his red card”.
He has accepted the charge and has been fined £30,000.
Additionally, United will be missing Argentine defender Lisandro Martinez, who is sidelined for three matches—against Chelsea, Brentford, and Liverpool—following a red card for violent conduct during Monday’s 2-1 home loss to Leeds United.
Martinez was sent off in the 56th minute for pulling the hair of Leeds striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Currently sitting third in the league with 55 points from 32 matches, United will head to sixth-placed Chelsea on Saturday.
