England international Jude Bellingham has acquired a minority stake in the Birmingham Phoenix franchise of The Hundred, as announced by co-owners Warwickshire County Cricket Club on Wednesday.
The Real Madrid midfielder will hold a 1.2% stake, with a primary focus on community engagement and social initiatives. Warwickshire County Cricket Club will maintain its status as the majority stakeholder with 50.4% of the shares, while Knighthead Capital Management will possess 48.4%.
“I feel a sense of duty to the city,” the 22-year-old stated in a press release.
“I had the good fortune of growing up with the choice of playing cricket as well as football, but not all kids have that privilege. It’s essential for me to be part of something like this that highlights opportunities for young people—it’s a cause I believe in deeply.”
The sixth season of the tournament, featuring a 100-ball format, is scheduled to take place from July 21 to August 16.
