The Wallaroos and their coaching staff were forced to evacuate their hotel accommodations in Kansas City due to an active tornado warning in the area.
This comes after the team faced unusual weather conditions during the Pacific Four series, where their match against Canada in Sacramento took place in front of an empty stadium due to lightning strikes.
In a statement, the Wallaroos confirmed their evacuation in the evening because of “active tornados” threatening the Kansas City metropolitan area and the state of Missouri on Tuesday (AEST).
Earlier on Tuesday morning, the Wallaroos trained in dry and windy conditions before the severe weather warning was issued.

“The Wallaroos…(were) evacuated from their hotel rooms in the evening due to active tornados in the region,” the statement noted.
“After about an hour, players and staff were allowed to return to their rooms, although the tornado warning remained active until 11pm local time.”
The National Weather Service in the USA has issued a continual alert for the area, with Kansas and Missouri being part of the notorious ‘tornado alley’ in the Great Plains of the United States.

Severe storms and tornadoes caused substantial damage south of the Kansas City area, leaving at least 8000 residents without power.
In response to media inquiries, player Samantha Wood shared her experiences during the Sacramento match, describing the “shock” of playing in such adverse weather conditions.
“It was quite a shock to warm up, only to be pulled off the field again,” the scrumhalf acknowledged.
“You end up soaking wet and then have to go through it all over again. I believe we adjusted well, but it was a massive surprise for us.
“We were just sitting around, waiting, conserving energy, and hoping that the game would proceed.”

“Honestly, there were moments when I believe a few of us thought, ‘There’s no way the game will go ahead.’
The Wallaroos are set to compete against the United States on Saturday in Kansas City.
However, the match may be postponed or relocated due to active weather warnings in the area, with forecasts indicating destructive winds, hail, tornadoes, and severe storm activity persisting until the end of the week, coinciding with Australia’s scheduled play.
