Brisbane Broncos sensation Ben Te Kura has received the green light to take a six-week hiatus from his NRL duties to pursue a career in the NFL.
Standing at a towering 205cm, Te Kura holds the title of the tallest player in the NRL and is eager to follow in the esteemed footsteps of Australia’s Super Bowl champion, Jordan Mailata—a former league junior.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Broncos announced that the 21-year-old “has attracted long-term interest from the NFL, and the club has granted Te Kura permission to participate in a current six-week NFL training camp.”

Following the six-week period, Brisbane announced he would either “return to Broncos training, or the club may extend his leave to support further steps towards a potential NFL opportunity in the United States.”
Dwane Budgen, a certified contract adviser for the NFL Players Association, believes Te Kura possesses the qualities necessary for a successful transition.
“Ben Te Kura is a great fit for the NFL. He’s athletic and boasts an impressive arm span, which is exactly what the NFL seeks,” Budgen stated in an interview with SEN.

Te Kura has only participated in five NRL matches since making his debut in 2024, struggling with a range of injuries.
He has yet to feature in the first grade this year, having played only three games in the Queensland Cup with Wynnum Manly.
