St George Illawarra’s dismal start to the season took another hit when their merchandise truck was involved in a crash while heading to the match in Wollongong.
Following an unbroken string of losses and increasing pressure on coach Shane Flanagan, the upcoming round six encounter with Manly is deemed a crucial fixture, with the team’s troubles extending beyond just their performances on the field.
Photographs circulated on social media Friday afternoon showing the Dragons-branded vehicle toppled onto its side.

The club promptly issued a statement acknowledging the incident.
“The St George Illawarra Dragons confirm that a merchandise trailer belonging to the club overturned in a single-vehicle incident on the M1 near Mount Ousley this afternoon,” the statement read.
“The crash occurred on a downhill bend while heading towards WIN Stadium.”
“Fortunately, the driver emerged unscathed.”
The beleaguered Saints are set to face Manly at WIN Stadium, with coach Flanagan making a series of changes to his squad in a desperate attempt to reverse their fortunes this season.

Kyle Flanagan will step in as halfback, Daniel Atkinson will move to five-eighth, and Tyrell Sloan will take over at fullback in place of the injured Clint Gutherson.
