Wrexham suffered a 3-1 defeat against Championship champions Coventry on Sunday, delivering a significant setback to their aspirations for a playoff position.
Under Phil Parkinson’s management, Wrexham fell behind in the 19th minute due to a close-range effort from Brandon Thomas-Asante at the CBS Arena.
However, Oliver Rathbone levelled the match just six minutes later with a composed finish.
Coventry regained the lead with an 80th-minute free-kick from Victor Torp, and Ephron Mason-Clark added a second goal during stoppage time, securing Coventry’s 27th victory in 45 matches this season.
Wrexham remains in sixth place, just holding onto the final playoff spot.
They are currently tied on points with Hull, who are in seventh place after suffering a loss at Charlton on Saturday. Wrexham enjoys a goal difference advantage of +4 compared to Hull’s +3.
Derby, who sit in eighth place following a win over QPR on Saturday, are also in the playoff chase, just one point behind Wrexham and Hull.
Wrexham’s final match of the regular season will be against Middlesbrough on May 2nd, while Hull will host Norwich and Derby will face Sheffield United at Pride Park.
Millwall, Middlesbrough, and Southampton have already confirmed their spots in the playoffs.
Coventry’s promotion was confirmed last week, and they secured the Championship title with a thumping victory over Portsmouth on Tuesday.
Frank Lampard’s squad will be returning to the Premier League next season after a 25-year hiatus.

Ipswich currently hold the second automatic promotion spot, ahead of Millwall on goal difference.
If Kieran McKenna’s squad can secure four points from their remaining two fixtures against Southampton and QPR, they will return to the Premier League one year after their relegation.
