Goals from Konstantinos Mavropanos and Taty Castellanos propelled West Ham United to a commanding 4-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League (PL), marking a significant step in their efforts to prevent relegation for the first time since the 2010/11 season.
Entering the match merely a point behind safety, West Ham recognised that a win would enable them to escape the relegation zone at the expense of Tottenham.
However, Wolves began the match with intensity, as André sent an early long-range attempt sailing over the crossbar.
As the Hammers settled into the game, they squandered a golden opportunity to take the lead when Crysencio Summerville lifted a shot over the bar from eight yards after a brilliant chipped pass from Mateus Fernandes.
Both teams continued to threaten as the first half unfolded, with Jarrod Bowen’s weak effort comfortably saved by José Sá while Adam Armstrong failed to find the net with a header from close range, denied by Mads Hermansen.

With a history of winning their last five home encounters against Wolves in the PL, West Ham sought to seize control before half-time, and their efforts paid off in the 42nd minute, when Bowen’s inswinging corner found Mavropanos, who expertly headed it into the far corner.
The excitement carried into the early moments of the second half, with both teams hitting the woodwork just a minute apart.
First, Angel Gomes struck a free-kick agonisingly against the post for the visitors, followed by Bowen, who cut in from the right and unleashed a powerful shot that rattled Sá’s upright.
Not letting up, West Ham extended their lead in the 66th minute, when Castellanos combined brilliantly with partner Pablo, finishing with a precise effort.
Nuno Espírito Santo’s side sensed an opportunity to further punish their opponents, and just two minutes later, they struck again with Bowen setting up Castellanos for a deflected shot that trickled into the bottom corner.

Pushed by their momentum, West Ham capped off their scoring in the dying moments with Mavropanos producing an acrobatic volley from Bowen’s corner, sealing a convincing 4-0 victory and lifting the Hammers clear of the relegation zone.
As for Rob Edwards’ team, their impending relegation to the Championship could be confirmed as early as next weekend, following a disappointing 16th match without a win on the road this season (D5, L11).
