In a thrilling encounter on Tuesday, Angel Correa netted the decisive goal for Mexico’s Tigres UANL in the 33rd minute, securing a 1-0 win over MLS hosts Nashville during the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup semi-finals.
The two sides will clash again next Tuesday in Mexico for the second leg, where they will determine which team progresses to the final set for May 30.
In the other semi-final tie, Los Angeles FC will face off against Mexico’s Toluca starting on Wednesday.
The match’s kick-off was pushed back by an hour due to a severe thunderstorm, but once underway, Correa took charge. He blasted a low left-footed shot from outside the box into the bottom left corner just after the 30-minute mark.
Nashville, who currently sit atop the MLS Eastern Conference, eliminated Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami in the round of 16 and triumphed over Club America at Estadio Azteca in the quarter-finals.
Beginning their MLS campaign with a record of 7 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss, Nashville leads Messi’s team by three points in the Eastern standings.
