Manager Arne Slot praised Mohamed Salah’s significant contribution to Liverpool over his nine-year tenure at the club, expressing hope that the Egyptian forward will secure two more trophies before his departure.
Salah, who has netted 255 goals for Liverpool and played a crucial role in their triumphs, including two Premier League titles, one FA Cup, two League Cups, and one Champions League trophy, announced last week his intention to leave at the conclusion of the season.
Slot confirmed that Salah is fit and ready for Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City.
“He trained with us yesterday and again today, and he’s available for the game tomorrow,” he informed reporters on Friday, showering accolades on the club’s third-highest all-time goalscorer.
“It’s been astonishing what he has accomplished for this club over the years, scoring goals and providing assists every three days, making an impact, and winning trophies… I can only wish that he can secure two more trophies before the season’s end.”
Liverpool currently sit fifth in the Premier League, 21 points adrift of leaders Arsenal, but they have reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League and will face Paris Saint-Germain away on Wednesday.
Unfortunately for Slot’s side, they will be without their first-choice goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, as they approach the final two months of the season due to injury.
“We anticipate he will be fit by the end of the season,” Slot remarked.
Striker Alexander Isak has returned to the squad after an absence of over three months due to a broken leg.
“It would certainly be premature to expect him to be in the starting line-up. He trained with us yesterday for the first time… after exactly 101 days,” the manager noted.
Although Liverpool have lost both Premier League encounters against City this season, Slot highlighted that their improved display during February’s 2-1 home defeat proved they can compete with Pep Guardiola’s side.
“In the first half at Anfield, City controlled possession… how impressive was it that we took charge of possession in the second half? Because how many teams can say they dominated possession against City?” Slot questioned.
“Now we must demonstrate that same ability at their ground, which is more challenging than having 60,000 supporters at Anfield behind you.”
