Liam Rosenior acknowledged that Chelsea find themselves in a “challenging position” following a disappointing 3-0 loss to Manchester City on Sunday, which has put additional pressure on the Blues’ manager.
Rosenior’s team conceded all three goals in the second half at Stamford Bridge, with Nico O’Reilly, Marc Guehi, and Jeremy Doku finding the net for title-contending City.
Currently, Chelsea is in sixth place in the Premier League, sitting four points adrift of Liverpool, who occupy fifth place, making the race for a top-five finish even more daunting.
With their chances of Champions League qualification hanging by a thread, Rosenior is facing intense scrutiny over Chelsea’s form since he took over from Enzo Maresca in January.
The Blues have suffered five defeats in their last six games across all competitions, including three consecutive losses in the Premier League.
In those three league encounters, Chelsea has not managed to score, leading Rosenior to concede that the team has fallen significantly short of the standards he expects.
“The second half was not good enough. This pattern has been evident for the past month, especially in how we respond to setbacks,” he stated.
“When you go behind against teams of that calibre, the key is to remain in the game for the next five minutes. Instead, we faced an incredibly tough second half.”

Chelsea fans voiced their frustrations with boos at full-time, and Rosenior is aware that further criticism awaits if results do not improve in the closing stages of the season.
“I take responsibility. This is a collective situation that requires our improvement. It begins with our habits and values. I can’t fault the effort; however, there was a noticeable dip in confidence during the second half,” he remarked.
“We need to uplift our performance. We find ourselves in a tough spot right now, and there’s a massive game on the horizon next week.”
“It’s important to remember that we played against a side in outstanding form that’s vying for the title. Nevertheless, we must secure victories in such matches — that’s why I’m here.”
Missing from the squad for a second consecutive match was Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, who has been suspended following a controversial decision by Rosenior.
Fernandez’s recent suggestion that he might consider leaving the club in the summer angered Rosenior.
However, the Argentine is set to return to training next week after discussions with his teammates.
“No team can overlook the absence of Enzo. The decision was made collectively, with the backing of the leadership group and sporting directors, for the club’s long-term benefit,” Rosenior explained.
“Enzo wished to have a discussion with the senior players. He has spoken with me, the leadership group, and all his teammates.”
“There’s nothing personal against Enzo. He will rejoin the squad on Tuesday. He is a fantastic player and a great guy.”
