Any club eyeing PSV star Ismael Saibari this summer will need to stump up as much as €75 million, according to director Earnest Stewart’s comments on Wednesday.
At just 25, Saibari has emerged as one of the key figures in the Eredivisie, netting 14 goals and providing 8 assists to help PSV secure their status as the fastest-ever champions in the Dutch top flight.
Stewart has indicated that if it were solely up to him, the asking price for Saibari would be between 70 and 75 million euros, a figure echoed by manager Peter Bosz during the post-match conference after PSV’s thrilling 4-3 victory over FC Utrecht on Saturday.
“You hear things through the grapevine regarding what other clubs are demanding for various players. He’s undoubtedly one of the top talents in the Dutch league, so it’s only reasonable for us to set a high asking price. That makes perfect sense to me,” Stewart remarked to ESPN.
“Ultimately, we’ll wait to see what interest comes our way, but it’s apparent that he stands out as one of the top players in the Eredivisie. We’re not going to let him go easily.”
Funds from Saibari’s eventual transfer are expected to be allocated towards finding a replacement for captain Jerdy Schouten, who suffered an ACL injury against FC Utrecht and is set for an extended period on the sidelines, also missing the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
“Jerdy sustained an injury on Saturday, and we clinched the title on Sunday. Now it’s Tuesday, so we should have more information in the next few days. It’s clear he will be out for some time, so we will need to adapt accordingly.”
